Year 3 2010-2011 End of Year Report In Terms 1 and 2 our topic was the Victorians. We all enjoyed the Victorian day because we got to dress up as Victorian children. The teachers were very strict and some of us had to wear the dunce hat. As part of our topic we had to make our own Victorian inventions and then present them to Queen Victoria herself, it made us all quite nervous. The winning inventions were an extending chimney sweep brush, the flushing toilet, a gramophone and a rag rug! In D.T we made Victorian peg dolls and our own doll’s houses to put them in. It was a good start to Year 3. In terms 3 and 4 we learnt about Space and we had a visit from the mobile planetarium. We learnt about the planets and different star constellations which was very interesting. We tried to imagine our own trip to the Moon and thought about what it would be like to be an astronaut. In D.T we were given the challenge of making our own Space Toys using pneumatics. We got to work with children from both Year 3 classes and even had a visit from Sir Isaac Newton who chose the winning designs. In Science we learnt about Light and Dark. We investigated how shadows were made and also why we have night and day. In Terms 5 and 6 our topic was ‘The Big Dig’. We started the term by visiting the British Museum in London to look at the Egyptian artefacts. We loved looking at the mummies and the statues, especially the mummified animals. There were crocodiles, cats, falcons, fish, baby bulls and snakes. The Rosetta stone was also kept at the museum and it was good to see the 3 different languages written on it. In Art we have made our own Egyptian artefacts inspired by what we saw at the museum. We will be using these artefacts to create our own archaeological dig. We have also learnt about how the Ancient Egyptians lived and the discoveries of Howard Carter. We have really enjoyed Year 3, the year has gone really quickly and we are looking forward to lots of new learning in Year 4. Reported by the class representatives for 3B and 3DG
