Year 5 end of year report

We have enjoyed year 5 and have done lots of different exciting things like: Ancient Greek clay busts, learning German as a new language and we made some spectacular Greek masks!! Everyone enjoyed the big dance, when we danced our feet off to Hound Dog by Elvis Presley. The most enjoyable part of the year was when we did the 80s night where there was: the choir, men dressing up as ladies, steel drums and an amazing band by year 6!!!! Also there was a choir performance in Waldron for a Christmas nativity; with real animals,  there was also our junior Christmas nativity for parents and infants.

During lessons we have been busy in our topic where we have done: The Greeks, Dragons Den, The Normans and Rivers. We started off with the River topic where we examined lots of different rivers but mainly we concentrated on the river Cuckmere ( we went there for our school trip). After the term we then started our topic on the Ancient Greeks which was exciting and we swapped classes with: 5S, 5W,6L and 6F. In 6L we learnt about warfare, in 6F we learnt about the Olympics, in 5W we did gods and goddesses (where we made our clay busts). In 5S we did democracy when we re-enacted a court scene of Ancient Greece. Also during our Normans topic we went on a trip Battle Abbey where we recreated the battle of Hastings!! In DT we are learning about Dragons Den, we are going to make a moving toy using a cam mechanism.

This year we started doing homework, for English we learnt spellings, wrote stories, book reviews and dictionary work. In Maths we practised  the week’s topic. For Red Nose day we made up jokes and the top 10 jokes went on the school website and we all wore something red!

It will be sad to leave year 5, it’s been a brilliant year!
