Pre School
Sheepsetting Pre-School was first established in 1969 and has been running for over 39 years.  The Pre-School is a registered charity and is a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance (PLA).

The Pre-school is situated within Cross-in-Hand CEP School and has its own building which is situated next to the reception class.  The outside play space is fence enclosed for safety and it is an area that we are currently looking to make improvements to. We also have access to the school hall and library facilities.

We are OFSTED inspected and our most recent inspection was in November 2005.  We were very pleased with the outcome of this inspection and the report is available, should you wish to read it.  We are registered with the Early Years Education Entitlement and are able to offer funded places for 3 and 4 year olds.

As guided by the Children’s Act, we work on a ratio of 1 adult to 6 children.

Our Aims

Our aim as a Pre-school is to provide high quality care and a safe and happy environment for our children, in which to learn through play.  We aim to help our children prepare for their introduction into full time education.  We provide a well-balanced programme of activities.

Management of children

Sheepsetting pre-school believes that children and adults flourish best in an ordered environment in which everyone knows what is expected of them.  Staff are aware that their own friendliness, care and courtesy provide a positive model for the children.  Care is taken to endorse desirable behaviour and unacceptability of misbehaviour made clear immediately by explanation and not personal blame.  Visitors will note that we work hard to promote social skills, including the art of learning to share, showing kindness and being helpful towards other people.

Admissions and Fees

Admission is from a waiting list, by age.  The children are admitted from the age of 2½.

The sessions are:

Morning Session    -      Monday to Friday    9.00am    -    11.30am

Lunch Club    -             Monday to Friday    11.30am    -    12.30pm

Afternoon Session    -    Monday to Friday    12.30pm    -    3.00pm

The Friday morning session is only for children who will be starting school the following September.  This session is called “Rising 5’s”.

There is a breakfast club facility that is run on the school site.  If you are interested, please speak to the school office on 01435 862941.

At present we are registered for 30 children per session.

A non-refundable registration fee of £20.00 (£10.00 for reception children) is payable when registering a child for a place at pre-school and this includes a sweatshirt.

Our lunch club fee is £3.50 per day.

Our fees are set to be in line with the Early Years Education Entitlement and at the moment they are £8.75 per session per child.  Should the Nursery Education Grant increase we will increase our fees the following term so that we stay in line with the grant.

We must stress that although we are on the Cross-In-Hand school site, this does not necessarily mean your child will be admitted into the school on reaching school age.  Attending the pre-school does not mean that your child will have to attend Cross-In-Hand school.

Please contact the pre-school for an application form if you are interested in enrolling your child.  The term before your child is due to start, you and your child will be invited for a taster session where you will experience the pre-school first hand.
