The variety of activities on offer and the pre-school environment encourages children to develop physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills through play. Each day the pre-school provides a range of varied activities. There is an area of the setting that is specifically suited to creative activities, such as painting, printing, colouring, 3D construction, sand and water. The first part of the session is set up with a variety of activities, including one adult led activity. This enables the children independence and freedom to choose their own activity. We operate a snack bar system, so that the children can choose when to have a break for something to eat and drink. The sessions usually finish with singing and story time.
Topics The pre-school has themes that are each run for half a term (these are always displayed on the notice board) around which art activities are offered. We encourage the children to bring an item that relates to the topic into pre-school for show and tell. This gives the opportunity to build self-confidence. Our Rising 5’s session on a Friday morning helps prepare the children for school. The children are split into smaller key-person groups and practice name recognition, pencil control, basic letters and numbers and dressing/undressing for P.E.
Areas of LearningAll children progress at different rates and individual achievement will vary. The pre-school enables children to progress at their own speed. We aim to work towards the Government’s Early Learning Goals, which concentrate on six different areas. These are:
• Personal and social and emotional development
• Communication language and literacy
• Problem solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
• Knowledge and understanding of the world
• Physical development
• Creative development

Observations are made as the children progress, their achievements are recorded and shared with parents at termly meetings. |
